Challenge Accepted!

So lovely blogging pal Pippa over at A Mother’s Ramblings, has tagged me for a super quick Meme:

1) Which TV character do you think you are most like?

Monica from Friends, although I attempt not to be an anal retentive control freak – yeah I don’t manage it much! But I’m not as insanely tidy as her thankfully or no one could live with me 🙂

2) What time do you go to bed?

Normally about 10.30pm and then read till about 11.30pm

3) What was the last meal you made from scratch?

Steak and Mushroom Pie with Mash and Veggies.

4) What is your favourite type of music?

Everything? I love pretty much everything from Jay-Z, Wiley, Tiny Tempah to Ed Sheeran and Sarah McLachlan. My iPod is very eclectic, I confuse the hell out of Genius on iTunes.  I think I like anything I can sing along to LOUD!

5) In what position do you sleep?

On my left side curled up, and it has to be cold – see control freak!

6) What is your first memory?

Sitting in a very old fashioned pram with my Nan stopped in the street talking to someone. I was about 18 months I guess?

7) What is your least favourite smell?

If anyone wants to answer the same questions I’d love to read your answers. Let me know where they are.

I was tagged by the lovely Rachel over at Tales from the Village – as Inspired by the Q&A in The Guardian –

Which living person do you most admire, and why?
– Sounds trite but my Mum. She is the most amazing woman, young mother, early feminist, working mum and would do anything for anyone. She can cook like a chef and has the most amazing ability to make a garden out of literally nothing. She’s amazing.

When were you happiest?
– I’m pretty happy now, but probably most happiest were my months living on my own in Vancouver , having lots of fabulous adventures.

What was your most embarrassing moment?
– A Greek Holiday with friends, I had to show my ass to a whole chemists shop after I’d sat on some sea urchin things. *the shame*

Aside from property, what’s the most expensive thing you’ve bought?
– MX5 Sports car which I kept for a summer and sold because it was awful in the rain. I still miss it!

What is your most treasured possession?
– My engagement ring,  it was bought for me in Brighton and 10 years later I still adore it.

Where would you like to live?
– Vancouver, the Rockies, Prince Edward Island – anywhere in Canada!

What’s your favourite smell?
– Sweetpeas

Who would play you in the film of your life?
– Gotta be Tina Fey!

What is your favourite book?
– I have so many…..I can’t choose!

What is your most unappealing habit?
– My complete inability to deal with the post – there are piles of paperwork everywhere.

What would be your fancy dress costume of choice?
– Edwardian, I have the figure for it – I missed my fashion decade!

What is your earliest memory?
– Sitting up in a big old pram, surrounded by tall white buildings.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?
– Violet Creams – they are the best chocolates ever!.

What do you owe your parents?
– Everything, they are bloody awesome.

To whom would you most like to say sorry, and why?
– To my friend Philippa. I never said sorry to her for arguing with some moron at her her 21st birthday party, or to tell her to have a great holiday.  I thought I’d say sorry when she came back but she never did, she and her boyfriend died there.  18 years later it’s the only thing in my life I really regret.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
– Paul and Miss L no question.

What does love feel like?
– Warm and easy. Not hard work at all.

What was the best kiss of your life?
– My wonderful husband – but I’m note telling when, just to keep him guessing 😉

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
– ‘Don’t run’, ‘mind that’ ‘do you need the loo?’

What is the worst job you’ve done?
– Serving food at the Phillips Canteen in Redhill when I graduated Uni, I burnt the crap out of my hands everyday. Be nice to people who serve food – hardest job ever!

If you could edit your past, what would you change?
– Nothing – it all happened for a reason.

What is the closest you’ve come to death?
– Childbirth, no question if they’d left me another hour I’d have been dead.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
– Miss L she is amazing.

When did you last cry, and why?
– At Dr Who when David Tenant left on a re-run last week. I cry at pretty much anything on TV!

How do you relax?
– Surfing the web, hot baths, wine.

What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
– Somewhere indoors for the washing machine and tumble dryer.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
– You can’t change people, they have to want to change themselves.

I’m not going to tag anyone – you are all invited to take part! Just let me know so I can come and read – thanks x

This is Me Meme

Rosie Scribble tagged me ages ago with the This is Me Meme – started by the genius that is Tara Cain over at Sticky Fingers – her off the Gallery every week.

Here’s the rules such as they are (I like rules like that!)

  • Ask your child – their age doesn’t matter – to draw a picture of you.
  • Post it on your blog.
  • Let’s call it the This is Me Meme
  • Err, that’s it.
  • Pass it on to your friends/enemies if you want to.

So here’s me as drawn by Miss Miss L aged 8

I swear my neck isn’t really that long and I don’t wear necklaces EVER so no idea where they come from, I’m just grateful she didn’t draw me rounder 🙂

If anyone would like to join in – let me know and if you want to see more child blogger art pop over here

Tag I’m it

After being tagged by my lovely blog friend Viv over at Poppy Sparkles here is my meme post revealing seven things you probably don’t know about me.

1 I failed my GCSE Maths getting a D Grade – 4 times! They gave up at that point and told me to take Drama – ha ha!  Ironically I have then spent the rest of my life working in Finance and IT.  It turns out I’m a bit numbers dyslexic,  I read them round the wrong way – so I have to be extra, extra careful when tallying figures.

2  I can’t drink black vodka ever again, after a very stupid drinking competition in my late 20s – the stuff is just evil!

3  I once own a Mazda MX5 Sports car…for a summer.  When it started raining I had to sell it and buy something sensible. But it was a glorious summer driving down to Brighton in it.

4  I’m an only child – yes I know I seem quite normal don’t I 🙂

5  I can’t walk down the street without looking behind me a lot, in fact I’m downright paranoid. When I was 10, a friend and I were walking our bikes back from town. A man we passed as we crossed the road, came up behind me and tried to grab me off the street. Luckily my friend screamed and kicked him while he was dragging me off. He let go and we ran off on our bikes, I am forever thankful to her.  It’s left me always having to be aware of whats going on around me, which has saved my butt a few times. From bad things, sometimes good things come is what I think about it now.

6 I like Pina Colada cocktails – tacky but lush!

7 I once went on holiday to Rhodes, when I was there some friend and I swam out to some rocks. I made the mistake of sitting on them, god knows what was on them because my legs went numb and started to swell!  My friends got me back to shore on a lilo, and then took me to the village chemist where he made me show him my butt in the middle of the shop – classy! Whatever it was he gave me worked though and they were normal again a few hours later.

So here are the bloggers I’d love to know more about:

Marianne @ Le Temps Jadis

Alethea @ Mom on a Wire

Photo Meme

I’m catching up on my Meme’s – I’ve been rubbish of late, so expect a few in the coming days!

This one is from Susan over at SusanKMann (great site – check it out!)

First Up the Rules:

1. Open your first (oldest) photo folder in your computer library
2. Scroll to the 10th photo
3. Post the photo and the story behind it
4. Tag 5 or more people to continue the thread

This is Ireland in March 2001. Paul had just bought me my first digital camera for my birthday and we’d gone to see my Nan in Ireland pre our wedding. She was in hospital at the time and I wanted her to meet the man I was going to marry.  At the time she was 88 and everyone thought she was on death’s door and I felt I should get there as fast as possible. As always with my Nan she thankfully proved everyone wrong and it still with us now at a grand old 96!

After we visited Nan, we hired a car and drove round the ring of Kerry which is stunningly beautiful even in the March rain. We had such a great break and it was lovely to take Paul over and show him all my favourite spots in Ireland – it’s such a wonderful country.  Happy memories!

I nominate the following lovely bloggers:

Paula @BattlingOn

Move to Portugal

Susie @Newdaynewlesson

Meme Frenzy

I’ve been tagged 3 times this week and I don’t like to be a bad blog friend so I’m doing all three at once!

First off Karin at Cafebebe tagged me with HERE COMES MY FROCK meme to show your wedding dress. I’ll happily show off my wedding dress at the drop of a hat, I loved it.  I actually went shopping on my own for it, as I didn’t have any girlfriends at the time and my Mum lived 100 miles away. So the nice ladies in Debenhams helped me and made me feel like less of a ‘billy no mates’ even eight years later I thank them for their kindness.  So here it is and the bloke next to me looks pretty good too!

Next up…

This is the Shiny Happy People Meme from the lovely New Mummy tips and the rules are

1. Name a song that makes you happy – a song you would listen to if you needed a sudden injection of happiness;

2. Post an image that makes you smile. It can be anything – a silly photo, an image taken from the internet, It just has to make you smile

Okay this is a tough one….my favourite song to make me smile is Building a Mystery by Sarah McLachlan (not the cheeriest song ever!) but it reminds me of living in Vancouver in 1997 and having the best time ever.

The picture that always makes me laugh is this and it’s awful!

This was taken 14 days after Miss L was born, we’d both nearly died, I’d not slept for 2 weeks and I didn’t even know how to hold her – as you can tell!  Seriously hilarious! But it makes me smile, we’d gone through so much and survived – I look like crap and I don’t care 🙂  Hard to believe it was less than a year from my polished wedding photo above!

Third and final Meme..

New Blogger Meme

Blogging is so hard when you first start and I swear I was writing to myself for the first two years I was blogging over at Geek Mum before I moved here.  So I was delighted to be tagged by Sandy Calico at Baby Baby for the You’re Welcome Meme started by Sally at Who’s the Mummy?.

These are the rules:

Recommend three new blogs you’ve discovered and loved

Tag three other bloggers and ask them to do the same
So here are my three or maybe four!:
Kitschy Koo – uber cute designs and kids
Urban Mums London – making motherhood in London super stylish
21st Century Mummy –  Great blog for mothering advice, especially in those early years
Mummy from the Heart – she’s a Mum of three a 6 year old and 2 year old twins.  It really is a lovely blog from the heart
not in the rules but I had to sneak her in, it has to be Crystal Jigsaw – she’s a lovely tweeter and has been so kind.
As always with me I’m making all of these open. I’d love to see your wedding dress, know your favourite new bloggers, or know what makes you smile.  Let me know if you join in.
