Something Blue

I’ve become a little obsessed with this shade of blue….Tardis blue…isn’t it just the most perfect shade of dark blue?  I’ve been thinking for a while that it would be nice to have a front door in that colour. Unfortunately our front door is ancient white UPVC but it does need replacing…you can see where I’m going with this can’t you?

I had a look around some online door sites I discovered that you can get composite doors in that shade.   So I thought I’d run my geeky idea past my friends on Facebook to see if it was utterly sad or bordering on cool? Turns out my friends would also like a tardis blue front door too – mostly in the hope of it making their houses ‘bigger on the inside’ -  I am not alone!

Then yesterday I was walking through town and look what I spotted on two of the oldest houses in town

Bishops Palace built in 1550

Georgian House from about 1800 – maybe earlier?

I think it works really well, especially with the green planting and white woodwork around the door – what do you all think?

Oooh nice. Our front door needs repainting, currently bishop’s purple(!) but I don’t have enough paint and so am thinking about switching since I need to get more. Blue is good. Immediate woodwork round the door is black but the house itself is painted white. Am liking, liking :)

Bishops Purple sounds rather lovely too!

It’s such a great colour. I had half an idea about actually painting my door to look like the TARDIS but if I did that here in the centre of town, I’m sure there would always be someone on my doorstep, taking photos. Which would make me horribly paranoid!

Our front door is green but there’s not an old piano behind it.

LOL! Yeah people would totally do that at yours. Maybe the next house? x

I love that shade of blue, and, as long as you’re not planning on adding a police box sign too, nothing too geeky about it!

With the added bonus that, like the Tardis, it doesn’t date :) Do it! :)

That second front door is gorgeous… and I want it! But we too have a UPVC (much smaller) front door. Think it would look a little out of place! x

That does slightly worry me too, we have a fairly wide 1930′s sized gap. I’m hoping it’ll look ok.

Such a lovely blue, I dont think Farrow and Ball do a Tardis Blue yet? Perhaps they would call it Time Travel Cerulean? Very elegant looking though! Have a fab week! xx

Good choice – that’s the colour we painted our front door (Georgian house) a couple of years ago. We’d had a new door made in I think some sort of composite and he routed it to look panelled. We were a bit apprehensive but it worked really well and looks so much better than what was there before.
