It’s been a while since I’ve done a ‘Hooked on’ Friday as holidays, children, dogs and Club Penguin have all gotten in the way. But it’s the end of summer, the children are going back to school and I want to celebrate my love of British Beach Huts and the look that has spread worldwide.
The beach huts above are at Wells Next the Sea in North Norfolk which is one of our nearest beaches. We’ve spent lots of time over the last 5 years ‘Oooing and Ahhhing’ over them. Wouldn’t it be lovely to have one of these to stay in when visiting the beach?
Beach Huts are a left over relic from Victorian times when they were changing huts with wheels which were dragged into the water so women could take in the sea water and swim without losing their modesty. Now they are a get away for family’s who are lucky enough to own one or can rent one. In 2006 a beach hut in Dorset was sold for £235,000 ($470,000) and although most aren’t as expensive as that they still are sold for thousands, which is amazing. But I can still dream!
Interiors in these tiny homes are something else, I love the simplicity and the functionality of the one above. There is everything you need for a day at the beach.

And what a great modern take on the beach hut style! From this image you can see how the look is starting to be reflected in British homes. The pale colours blues and creams and simplicity work brilliantly together in almost any situation.
My perfect summer view!.

Lovely pictures which make me feel summery when it’s not so summery outside! I love beach huts, my Grandparents had one years ago on the West Sussex coast. My main memory is that it was always stashed with food and drink!
That’s something new to me- love it. Makes me what to hop on a plane and visit there.
I would love a beach hut in my garden!!
I reckon it would not cost too much to make one!! A darn sight cheaper than £200,000 eh?
Those are amazing! My perfect idea of a day at the beach would include these. What beautiful photos! Thanks for sharing.
Here there’s almost no beach front that you can build on. So the house there just get replaced with bigger and bigger houses. The cute, practical beach house, is fading away.
These are wonderful. I’ve never heard of them! I want one now!!
I love beach huts, so pretty!
Beach Huts are so cool….I would love one…
are you able to kip in them overnight? Now that would be ace, waking up with the beach outside the door…but then again they do look quite teeny tiny….
Whistlejacket – you lucky thing! what a lovely memory to have
Teresa – you would love North Norfolk, it’s very your style.
Sal – I’m with you – who can afford 200k for a lovely shed??
Terry – such a shame they are disappearing in your neighbourhood
IM – they are, aren’t they
Suki-Lou – You know I don’t think you are, but lets face it a lot of them are remote, so who’s going to know???
Amy – I hear ya! wouldn’t it be amazing!
Absolutely love beach huts too and the pics are fab. We went over to Lyme Regis (Dorset) on Thursday and walked along the sea front past all the pretty pastel beach huts. Lots of people were taking photos of them, I was just enjoying them, and you just can’t help yourself be nosy looking in each one. Some has the prettiest interiors too, bunting and matching crockery hanging up etc.
Oh, I just love beach huts. We went to Southwold a few weeks ago and they have the best beach huts. I spent an hour just wandering up and down trying to peak in. Some even had fully fitted kitchens! Gorgeous!
Those interior shots of the huts (ha, that rhymes!) are really neat…, I wish I had come across those for my beach hut post. Just love the huts, such great beach culture!
