It’s Hooked on Friday and here’s my contribution this week
In 1977 I was 5 and the country went mad celebrating the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. We went to a street party and there was bunting everywhere! I think it was one of those magical childhood days that sticks with you, and ever since then I’ve had a soft spot for bunting. Luckily for me it’s back in fashion and everywhere in the magazines at the moment.

It’s something that is so inexpensive and can make anywhere look like it’s ready to have a party.

You can also use them about the house as a cute fun accent as India Knight has in her kitchen

You can also use it as a cute addition to your child’s bedroom. Obviously if you have small children hang it up high so they can’t hurt themselves with it.

Here’s the bunting Lily has in her room and she loves it as it’s all girlie and flowery.

If you have some scraps of material left over from other projects and you’re handy with a sewing machine then you should be able to make your own bunting pretty quickly. If you’re more like me and useless with a sewing machine, hit Etsy or Ebay and you can find inexpensive cute handmade bunting on there.
Have fun!

Lately I’ve been seeing bunting everywhere and I think I’m starting to get hooked on it too. It’s so fun and can easily brighten a space. I love the idea of having it outside like that 2nd image you posted.
I don’t remember 1977 as I was only born half way through it, but I do have a little teddy called ‘Jumbilee’ to remind me.
That bunting is coooooooool. Will have to have a think on colours and designs for here.
I have been wanting to make a bunting for so long. Maybe I will try something this weekend. Thanks for the motivation.
How charming! We are having a big party soon .. I may have to add some bunting to brighten things up!
Cass
What a fun idea—it really does make it feel more like a party!
Thanks for showing all these. My daughter wants bunting (or “garland”) to decorate her wedding reception — it’s the only thing she knows she wants!!
Got to get me some good ideas soon!
Oh my god. I’m just surfing the internet looking for ideas for my daughter’s new bedroom (she’s 3 going on 13 and is finally moving into a big girl bed – mainly because she’s so tall she keeps falling out of the one she’s in) and there is the bedroom I want for her. Just gorgeous.
I should have just come to you in the first place
Oh how loving- I think I missed something in my education- I didn’t know they were called “buntings” I always called them those triangle pretty hanging things- Learned something new today- thanks :}
I’m so pleased you’re al loving bunting as much as me! And hey `I’ve provided a public service by giving it a name and bedroom ideas
Thanks you’ve all really brightened my morning x
Bunting is perfect – we love it! Just like paper chains…..hung anywhere it causes any room to feel special!
I love these and have always adored them in the “Land of Nod” catalog! You have such a beautiful site. Thanks for visiting mine too! Can’t wait for the couch update!
How lovely and it certainly puts me in the mood for a celebration—whether it be a party or celebrating life. Thanks so much!
I was 2 in 1977 and have vague memories of standing on a corner waving a flag though I’m not sure if that’s because I’ve been told about it. I do love bunting though, and the ones you’ve shown are fab. Your little girl’s room is so pretty, as is your site. Gorgeous.
It never would have occurred to me to put it in a child’s room…I’m slow. But it looks adorable! I love the one in your daughter’s room. You could even do it with scraps from favorite clothing, blankets, etc. like some people make memory quilts.
Thanks for visiting my blog!
Love that bunting. Have you seen Livy’s handmade bunting on A Field Journal – think you would love it (www.afieldjournal.blogspot.com) By the way, what’s the font on this blog? I really like it.
